Engineering recruitment agency in India: core engineering hiring, not software
Search for an engineering recruitment agency in India and half the results are IT staffing firms, because the software industry borrowed the word "engineer" and never gave it back. This page is about the other kind. Mechanical, electrical, civil, instrumentation, production, quality, design and project engineers. The people who make things, on sites and shop floors.
VVeRecruit is an online engineering recruitment agency in India where screened freelance HR recruiters and professional HR consultants with real industrial networks work your requirement at the same time. Reach into Coimbatore, Rajkot, Jamshedpur and Hosur is a different asset from reach into Bengaluru, and it is not the kind of thing a single consultancy accumulates.
Roles this covers
Design Engineer, Production Engineer, Quality Engineer, Maintenance Engineer, Process Engineer, Project Engineer, Site Engineer, Planning Engineer, Instrumentation and Control Engineer, Electrical Engineer, R&D and NPD Engineer, Tool Room Engineer, Service Engineer, Application Engineer, EHS Officer, Quantity Surveyor, Structural Engineer, Draughtsman.
Upward: Section Head, Engineering Manager, Head of Quality, Project Manager. Plant Head sits on the management page.
Why does hiring an engineer go wrong when the CV looks perfect?
Because engineering skill is narrow in a way the CV format hides completely.
Take two mechanical design engineers. Both hold a B.E. Mechanical, both have six years, both list SolidWorks and AutoCAD. The first designs sheet metal enclosures: bend allowances, forming limits, weld fixtures. The second designs injection-moulded plastic parts: draft angles, gate locations, shrinkage, tool feasibility. Neither can do the other's job without a year of relearning.
A keyword search sees one word, SolidWorks, and calls it a match. Your design head sees it in the first ten minutes of the technical round and you have burned a slot.
The same trap repeats across the discipline. A quality engineer from an IATF 16949 auto plant works to a different rulebook than one from a pharma unit under GMP. A civil engineer who ran a highway package is not a high-rise engineer. A maintenance engineer on hydraulics is not a maintenance engineer on PLCs.
Three more pressures shape this vertical in India.
The graduate pool is enormous and the specialist pool is small. Volume of applications is never the problem. Every posted core engineering role gets buried in CVs. Finding the eleven people who have actually done the specific process is the problem, and volume actively obstructs it.
Site postings shrink the candidate set to almost nothing. A project engineer needed at Dahej, Jamnagar or a stretch of highway in interior Odisha is not a Bengaluru search with a different pin code. It is a completely different market, and the people who know it are local recruiters and ex-EPC HR consultants, not a metro database.
Core engineering competes for its own people and loses. Salaries in software and technical sales run ahead of shop-floor engineering, and good production engineers leave the sector every year. So counter-offers here are less about money matching and more about role and location, which changes how a candidate has to be approached.
What competency matching looks like on a drawing board
Every role becomes a list of tasks in plain language. Candidates rate themselves against the same list — never used, have knowledge, used rarely, used daily — and tag where they did it.
A Mechanical Design Engineer for a sheet metal fabrication business:
- Build 3D models and release 2D production drawings in SolidWorks
- Apply GD&T and check tolerance stack-ups
- Create and revise BOMs in SAP
- Run DFMEA with the process and quality teams
- Do strength and fit calculations for a new assembly
- Raise and close ECNs through the release process
- Attend supplier line trials and close corrective actions
- Work to IS and ASME references where applicable
Now the two candidates from earlier separate cleanly. Both rate "used daily" on SolidWorks. Only one rates "used daily" on GD&T, tolerance stacks and supplier trials, because tool-side and sheet-metal-side work genuinely differ, and the tasks expose it where the software name did not.
For a Site Engineer the list is entirely different: read structural drawings, mark layouts, raise the daily progress report, check reinforcement before pour, take measurements for the RA bill, run a safety toolbox talk. Same method, different work.
You edit the list before it publishes. Suggestions come from the designation, department and level; the final version is what your engineering head would actually say.
Seniority, salary and where the jobs are
Entry-level Graduate Engineer Trainees start around ₹3 lakh to ₹5 lakh fixed CTC. Three-to-eight-year specialists sit roughly at ₹6 lakh to ₹14 lakh. Section heads and engineering managers run ₹15 lakh to ₹35 lakh and beyond, depending on industry and scale.
The map is industrial, not metropolitan:
- Pune, Chakan, Ranjangaon, Aurangabad: auto, auto components, machinery
- Chennai, Sriperumbudur, Hosur: auto, electronics, engineering
- Ahmedabad, Sanand, Vadodara, Dahej, Bharuch: chemicals, pharma, process plants
- Coimbatore, Rajkot, Ludhiana: pumps, motors, castings, textile machinery, foundries
- Delhi NCR, Manesar, Faridabad, Noida: components, consumer durables, capital goods
- Jamshedpur, Rourkela, Angul, Vizag: steel, metals, heavy engineering
- Bengaluru and Hyderabad: aerospace, defence, R&D centres, machine tools
Notice how few of those are places a metro-based consultancy has depth in. That is exactly why a role should be reachable by recruiters wherever they sit.
What to expect
You post by answering questions: discipline, industry, the processes and standards involved, location and shift, salary band, what the person does daily. No blank JD field.
Timelines vary more here than in any other category. A production engineer in Pune can shortlist in a fortnight. A commissioning engineer for a site in Gujarat with a specific process background may take six weeks, and pretending otherwise helps nobody. Notice periods in core engineering are usually 30 to 60 days, which is kinder than IT.
Fee is 8.33% of accepted annual fixed CTC, charged when the person joins. The 90-day guarantee covers a free replacement or a credit note.
Questions employers ask
Can you filter by process and not just by job title?
That is the entire mechanism. Discipline, industry and standards go into the hard filters, and the process-level work (GD&T, DFMEA, IATF audits, RA billing, PLC troubleshooting) goes into the task list that candidates rate themselves against. Title filtering alone is what produced your last mismatched shortlist.
We are at a remote site and nobody applies. What changes?
Reach. Your role is worked by recruiters near the site and by recruiters elsewhere at the same time, including people whose networks are full of engineers who have already worked site postings and know what they involve. Candidates who have done Dahej will consider Dahej. Candidates from a metro IT belt will not, however attractive the package looks.
Do you hire diploma holders and ITI-level technicians?
Yes. Qualification is a parameter you set on the role, whether B.E., B.Tech, diploma or ITI, and the task list works the same way at technician level, where it arguably works better, because the job is defined almost entirely by what the person can physically do.
Can you handle a batch of Graduate Engineer Trainees?
Yes, though be realistic about the shape of it. Volume junior hiring is a screening problem, and self-rated task grids plus structured parameters do most of the sorting before anyone gets a call.
