Senior executive jobs: a confidential job search for leaders

If you are searching for senior executive jobs, the roles you want are rarely advertised, and being seen looking can cost you more than staying put. VVeRecruit is built for a quiet search. You keep one profile, switch on OPEN2WORK so only recruiters working a fitting role can see you are open, and your name stays masked from employers until an interview is booked. It is free for job seekers. Create your free profile and decide later who gets to see it.

This page is for directors, heads of function, general managers, vice presidents and C-suite leaders, in any country where we list jobs. It explains how confidentiality works, how recruiters approach senior searches here, and what the platform does not do.

Why does an executive job search have to be confidential?

Because the market reads a visible search as a signal. If your board, your team or a competitor learns you are looking, the conversation changes before you have an offer. Some senior searches are also confidential on the other side, when a company is replacing a leader who does not yet know it.

That is why the best leadership roles move through personal networks and specialist recruiters rather than job boards. A public CV on a portal is the opposite of discreet. A search that no company can browse is the one that fits your position.

How does a confidential job search work here?

You build one profile and decide whether to switch on OPEN2WORK. With it on, only recruiters working a role that fits you can see you are open. No company can browse candidate profiles. Your name is masked from employers until an interview is scheduled, so a hiring company sees a match and a track record, not an identity.

Managed senior roles work the same way on the company side. The hiring company stays confidential until a candidate is selected, so you can talk about a role without knowing which company it is, and the company cannot see who you are until you both agree to meet.

Recruiters do not share your details with an employer on their own. You are revealed when an interview is scheduled, and not before. A non-circumvention clause binds the company and the candidate from that point.

How are senior roles matched?

Every role is described by its real responsibilities, such as "own the annual operating plan", "lead a team of forty", "manage the P&L for a region" or "negotiate with regulators". You rate yourself on those same tasks, from never used to used daily.

At a senior level that is more useful than a title. "Head of Operations" means a team of six at one company and a three-hundred-person plant at another. Task ratings, plus the scale you describe, let recruiters tell the difference and match you to roles you can actually do.

Matching uses your industry, function and seniority band, along with your location and country. Where recruiter-led hiring is open, currently India and the UK, a specialist recruiter works the role and screens you before anything goes to the employer. Elsewhere you apply directly and stay masked until an interview.

What should an executive profile include?

Scale and scope. Team size, budget, revenue, geography, number of sites. State numbers you can defend.

Function and industry. Where you have led, and where you would move.

What you have changed. One or two outcomes you owned: a turnaround, a market entry, a system rollout, a restructure. Keep them factual and specific.

Task ratings. Rate honestly at the top of the scale. An executive interview will test any rating of "used daily".

Constraints. Notice period, location, relocation, compensation expectations and whether you would consider interim or board roles.

Visibility. Switch on OPEN2WORK only if you want recruiters to see you are open. Share your name only when you are ready for an interview.

What kinds of senior roles can you look for?

The titles vary across countries, but the common groups are:

  • General management and operations: managing director, general manager, plant head, head of operations, country manager.
  • Finance and legal: CFO, financial controller, head of finance, general counsel.
  • Technology and product: CTO, VP engineering, head of data, head of product.
  • Commercial: chief revenue officer, sales director, marketing director, business head.
  • People and support: CHRO, head of HR, head of supply chain, head of customer experience.

Browse CXO jobs, head and director jobs and industries to see what is listed. Swap the country in the address for the market you want. Many leadership roles are posted as confidential, which means the company name stays hidden until a candidate is selected.

How is this different from an executive search firm?

An executive search firm is usually retained by a company for one search and works a small group of known candidates. A platform lets you be open, privately, to the recruiters and roles that match you, without waiting to be on someone's list.

Both can coexist. Many leaders keep relationships with a search firm and still keep a private profile on a platform like this one, so a good role from either side can reach them. We do not replace your network or your headhunter relationships. We add a quiet way to be found.

Recruiters on the platform are screened independent recruiters and HR consultants who work senior roles. Leadership search is slower and more personal than volume hiring, and a good recruiter will talk through the brief with you before any name moves.

What does it cost, and what do you need to know?

It is free for job seekers, always. You do not pay to create a profile, to be matched or to accept a role. The hiring company pays when someone joins. Nobody legitimate asks a candidate to pay for a leadership role.

There is no promise of a role, and no promise of speed. Senior searches take months. What the platform offers is a discreet way to be found for roles that fit, and recruiters whose payment depends on your joining and staying. The service is offered country by country, as local rules on recruitment allow.

What a good recruiter conversation sounds like

Expect questions about scope before salary: what you owned, who reported to you, what you would not do again. A recruiter working a senior role should be able to tell you the reporting line, why the seat is open and what success looks like in the first year, even if the company name is withheld.

If a recruiter cannot answer those, or pushes you to share your name before an interview is scheduled, treat it as a warning sign and say no. You decide how far each conversation goes, and you can pause or switch OPEN2WORK off at any time.

Practical advice for a confidential search

Tell as few people as possible, and agree in advance what a recruiter may say on your behalf. Keep your social profiles consistent with your private one, because a recruiter and an employer will both look. Prepare a short account of why you are open to a move that does not criticise your current company. Decide your non-negotiables on compensation, location and scope before the first call.

Expect due diligence. Senior hires are checked, so make sure the figures and dates on your profile match what a reference or a background check will say. If an offer does reach you, take advice on your notice period and any restrictive covenants in your current contract.

FAQ

Will my current employer see my profile?

Not by default. No company can browse candidate profiles, and employers see you only after an interview is scheduled. Keep your own social media and CV circulation consistent with your wish for privacy.

Is it really free for executives?

Yes. Job seekers never pay to build a profile, be matched or accept an offer. The company that hires pays the placement fee. If someone asks you to pay for access to a leadership role, do not.

Does the company see my name before the interview?

No. Your identity is masked until an interview is scheduled. Before that, a company sees your experience, task ratings and match to the role. Non-circumvention then applies to both the company and the candidate.

Can I see which company is hiring?

Managed roles are confidential until a candidate is selected, so the company name may be hidden at first. Some employers choose to show their name. Recruiters can brief you on the role and sector before you decide to proceed.

Do you place C-suite roles?

Roles at all levels are listed, including director and C-suite, where employers post them. What is open depends on what companies bring in a given country, so we cannot promise a particular title.

How long does a senior search take?

Often several months, because senior hiring involves more conversations, references and negotiation. A recruiter should give you an honest estimate once they have the brief. No platform can promise speed.
